The federal government is set to upgrade all police facilities in the country to enable it deliver optimally on it’s mandate
Naijacentral online reports that the Executive secretary,Nigerian Police Trust Fund,Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu gave the assurance while inspecting facilities at the Police Staff college Oji River, and the Detective College in Enugu .

The Executive secretary,Nigerian police Trust Fund ,Mohammed Sheidu, in company of the Deputy Inspector general of police in charge of training and development,Frank mba while inspecting facilities at the Nigerian police college,oji river and the Police Detective College Enugu maintained that the upgrade will significantly reposition the institution as part of the commitment of the Federal government to equip the Nigerian police and improve the welfare of personnel for optimal performance.

”After going round to asses this facility, we would be able to see ,looking at what seen here on ground amm, in a short period of time there is going to be significant change, luckily looking at this facility, most of what we need to do as assessed are more on the infrastructure, road network here, surprisingly at least, there’s one of this public facility that has come into that , I see eh a very good water coming out they say is coming out from the rock, here the facility itself the more work we need to do here would be able to get it done in a short period of time “ he said.

”Training institutions is one of the priority I look at ah, based on renewed hope agenda and the mandate that we have, we would definitely tackle training facilities across Nigeria, oji River in Enugu state is definitely one of the top priorities “

DIG Frank mbah described the police college as one of the four premier colleges in the country, hence the need to fix all the challenges of the school to bring it at par with the international level.

He pointed out that when the renovations and rehabilitations have been done, they will not only be fit to train police personnel not only in Nigeria but in other countries as well.

“We hope that moving forward, by the time we are done with repositioning our training schools, we’ll be able not only to train our personnel effectively but also be able to train members of the other law enforcement agencies and even police officers from other countries outside Nigeria,” he declared.

Mba said the force would fix the perimeter fencing, the access roads as well as other aspects of the college.

He also said that particular attention would be paid to the clinic in the college so that it would not only serve the school alone but the host community as well.

“For here, like the Executive Secretary Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu has already said, we shall be paying emphasis on, from the security point of view, we’ll fix the perimeter fencing as quickly as possible. We’ll fix the access roads and we shall attend to the other aspects of the College.

“We’ll also be speaking to the Executive Secretary and we shall be paying special attention to the clinic here. That is important to us, not just for the welfare of the trainees but because we want to render services to the host community.

“We want people from Oji River to be able to walk in here, get their children immunised, walk in here, get their vaccination, walk in here, and get treated for basic challenges of health that we have here in this country.

“So, people of Oji River, people in this local government, people in this area need to feel the positive multiplier effect of an institution like the Police College domiciled in their country home,” he said.

The DIG training and development expressed optimism that in no distant time police college, Oji would take a different shape.

“We are positive, very very positive that in no distant time, we’ll all come here with you and the story will be a different one and the story will be positive,” Mba said.

Over Six hundred recruits are currently undergoing training at the College in Oji River.
