The Enugu State Government has inaugurated a group known as the “Progressives Movement for Peter Mbah (PMPM)” for Enugu North Senatorial Zone ahead of the 2027 re-election of Gov. Mbah.
The group was unveiled at a well-attended event, drawing party faithful and supporters from across the six Council Areas of the zone namely Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani, on Tuesday in Enugu.
The inauguration is part of efforts to mobilize grassroots support for Gov. Mbah’s re-election in 2027.
Speaking at the inauguration, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, the Convener of the movement and Secretary to the State Government, said the initiative was designed to create a focused and effective support structure driven by new and committed members.
According to Onyia, the group aims to avoid the pitfalls of past support movements where the same individuals rotated across multiple platforms without delivering real grassroots impact.
“We are single-focused, and that focus is to ensure that the achievements of His Excellency, Gov. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, are effectively communicated to the grassroots,” he said.
He added that the movement would adopt an evidence-based communication strategy to highlight the governor’s performance and encourage voter participation in the 2027 elections.
Onyia noted that the PMPM would largely comprise young people and fresh faces, working in collaboration with party leadership to expand outreach and strengthen political engagement across communities.
Inaugurating the group, the Enugu State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Martin Chukwunweike, described the initiative as one of the best of its kind.
He expressed satisfaction with the large turnout at the event and commended supporters for their enthusiasm and commitment.
Chukwunweike said the mistakes of the 2023 elections would not be repeated, urging members of the group to consolidate support for the government ahead of 2027.
He also encouraged supporters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and mobilise others to participate actively in the electoral process.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, Mr Osinachi Nnajieze, described the movement as an organic and people-driven initiative capable of penetrating communities at the grassroots level.
Nnajieze criticised the previous trend of recycled support groups, noting that such structures often created a false impression of widespread support.
“What we see here are individuals who can drive real change in their communities—opinion leaders and agenda setters who will take the message directly to the people,” he said.
He stressed that the success of the movement would depend on its authenticity and its ability to connect with voters at the grassroots.
Responding, the Zonal Chairman of PMPM in Enugu North, Mr Chikamso Onyishi, expressed confidence in the group’s capacity to deliver overwhelming support for the governor in 2027.
Onyishi said the movement had already put in place a structure that would reach down to polling units across the zone.
“We have coordinators who will move to wards and polling units to engage directly with the people and sensitise them on the achievements of the present administration,” he said.
He pledged that the group would work tirelessly to ensure victory for Mbah, adding that members were committed to mobilising voters and strengthening the party’s presence across the state.
