The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed 1,720 personnel across Enugu State to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
This is contained in a statement issued in Enugu by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), NSCDC Enugu State Command, DSC Pamela Chukwu.
Chukwu said that the large-scale deployment would cover officers and men stationed at various Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, and other strategic public locations.
She said that the deployment would guarantee maximum security and protection of lives and property during the festive period.
“As part of a proactive security strategy, the command has intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and patrol activities across identified flashpoints.
“Tactical Units, Area Commanders, and Divisional Officers have been placed on high alert, while the Rapid Response Team has been strategically positioned to swiftly address any emergency.
“The command is also working in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure coordinated and effective security architecture throughout the state,” Chukwu said.
She said that the NSCDC Commandant in Enugu State, Dr Elijah Willie, had called on residents, particularly Muslim faithful, to celebrate peacefully and remain law-abiding.
She said that the commandant also encouraged members of the public to provide timely and useful information to security agencies on any suspicious person, movement or object.
The PRO reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, critical national assets and infrastructure before, during and after the celebration.
The Federal Government, on Tuesday, declared March 19 and March 20 as public holidays for Muslim faithful to celebrate the end of fasting within the Holy Month of Ramadan.
