The Unity School Old Students Association (USOSA) has praised the education investment and reforms of Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State, reaffirming its commitment to supporting innovation across unity schools nationwide.
The President-General of USOSA, Michael Magaji, gave the commendation on Friday during a courtesy visit by members of the association to the Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Chidiebere Onyia, at the Government House, Enugu.
Magaji said the association’s vision aligned with the ongoing education reforms in Enugu State, particularly in the areas of innovation, infrastructure, and improved learning outcomes.
According to him, the transition from conventional schools to smart, eco-friendly institutions, alongside the development of modern learning environments, reflects a shared commitment to transforming public education.
He noted that USOSA had continued to contribute to educational development in unity schools through initiatives such as smart classrooms, enhanced teaching methodologies, and policy engagement with the Federal Ministry of Education.
Magaji added that fostering patriotism and national development remained central to the association’s mission, describing Enugu State as a dependable partner in that regard.
He further stated that USOSA had been providing both intellectual and practical leadership in reimagining education for the 21st-century Nigerian child.
Highlighting student and alumni wellness, Magaji said Enugu was hosting this year’s Unity School Games, with participation from over 35 schools, providing a platform for interaction, competition, and national integration.
Responding, Onyia commended USOSA for its contributions and emphasised education as a key driver of economic growth and societal transformation.
He noted that the state had made notable progress in revitalising its education sector, including the upgrade of the Government Technical College Enugu, which he described as a significant historical and educational asset.
Onyia stressed the importance of a dual-pathway education system that recognises both academic and technical skills, noting that not all students must pursue traditional university education.
He also urged USOSA to play a more active role in shaping national education policies and ensuring accountability among stakeholders.
The SSG identified key challenges in the sector, including declining standards, outdated teaching methods, and insufficient teacher motivation, calling for comprehensive efforts to address them.
Onyia assured the association of the Enugu State Government’s readiness to collaborate in advancing educational development and fostering innovation.
