#EdoDecides2024: INEC condemns political interference, vows to uphold electoral integrity

Minutes before Obaseki was led outside by Mba, flanked by a contingent of policemen, the All Progressives Congress National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, addressed journalists, stating that the governor had no reason to be on the premises.

Members of the All Progressives Congress, led by Monday Okpebholo’s running mate, Dennis Idahosa, organised protests demanding the exit of Obaseki from the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission at about 3.30 am on Sunday.

Ighodalo and his supporters were also sent back by the security operatives stationed at the INEC collation centre.

The Adamawa governor also read out the figures from the party’s collation agent, dismissing the claim that he announced the governorship election results.

He said, “I did not announce results; I only informed the public of the exact figure from our collation agent that was ongoing before INEC disrupted the process, so INEC should be accused of violating the Electoral Act, not me.

“What we’re asking from INEC is to follow there rules, REC has no business to announce results or move collation to INEC headquarters. This is our stand and we will go back to consult.”

EdoDecides2024: INEC uploads 98.58% of results on IReV

“We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters and to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level and that polling unit.

“After that, the voters will start voting. At the end of the day, they will count the results, and it will be uploaded to our IReV,” he assured.

EdoDecides2024: INEC to begin collation of results 10 am

Omuoha reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring the collation process follows the laid down guidelines, adding that the patience and cooperation of all parties involved were appreciated.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the parties as we strive to ensure a credible and accurate outcome of this important election,” he said.

The REC further appealed to all stakeholders to remain calm and orderly, stressing that INEC remains dedicated to delivering a free, fair, and transparent election in Edo State.

Abia LG elections holds November 2

Giving further details, he said that the political party primaries were scheduled to hold between Sept. 25 and Oct. 4, while the submission of list of candidates would hold from October 5 to October 7.

The ABSIEC chairman said that the parties were expected to commence their electioneering campaigns on Oct. 18 and finish on October 31.

He said that the present commission was made up of men and women of integrity and outstanding pedigree, “who are committed to changing the narratives”.

EdoDecides2024: INEC yet to receive results from LGs – REC

INEC has not announced results. I am not even the returning officer for the state. The returning officer will announce the results. But I am surprised with what I see on social media. That is not the correct position of the commission,” he said.

Onuoha urged those disseminating unverified information to desist, stressing that the law clearly defines who is authorized to announce election results.

“No one has the authority to do that. The law is clear on who can announce the results. So, they should stop,” he warned.
