A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has appealed for a ceasefire in the ongoing hostility between United States-Israel against Iran to enable negotiation.
Dr Chinedu Ejezie made the appeal in Nsukka on Tuesday in a chat with newsmen while reacting to the ongoing war between US, Israel against Iran.
Ejezie urged United Nations to act fast to broker a ceasefire that would give room for negotiation that would help resolve problems that resulted in the ongoing hostility.
“The only way to deescalate the ongoing hostility involving United States and Israel in one side and Iran in another side is to broker a ceasefire by the United Nations.
“US-Israel have launched many air strikes on Iran since Saturday February 28 which have led to the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many others.
“If nothing is done urgently to deescalate tension, Iran will suffer more material and human casualties in the coming days, “he said.
He said to achieve this ceasefire Iran must stop all retaliatory
airstrikes in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates among others that Iran had accused of providing military airbases to US.
According to him, Iran stopping
retaliatory strikes would make US and Israel to considera a ceasefire deal.
Meanwhile, US President, Donald Trump had warned that the Iran war may last “four weeks or less” as US and Israeli planes would continue their strikes in Iran because Iran had continued with retaliatory strikes on Gulf nations hosting US bases in the region.
It would be recalled that, President Donald Trump had said that, US strikes on Iran was to eliminate Iran’s nuclear programme which he said had become a global threat.
