The Former Chairman of Ogige Market Traders Association Nsukka, Chief Festus Onugwu said it was unfortunate that Nigerians are suffering outrageous fuel price because of the ongoing hostility between US-Isreal and Iran.
Onogwu said this in Nsukka on Thursday while speaking with our correspondent over the sell of petrol pump price between N1400 and N1450 in Nsukka town and environ.
He said the present situation where Nigerians are buying petroleum products at exorbitant prices was avoidable if refinaries in the country are functional.
“This sudden hike in petrol and gas pump price have affected adversely the cost of running my business as well as other businesses in the country.
“If past presidents in the country have fixed our refinaries we would not have been affected as the present situation was avoidable if past leaders have done the needful.
“As a crude oil producing country if we have fixed our refinaries in Kaduna, Warri and Porthacourt, our refinaries are not functional because of bad governance and corruption of our past leaders.
It’s unfortunate that we are buying petrol and gas at this outrageous prices when we produced crude oil and have capacity to refine in it our country, “he said.
Onogwu who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vic G Will Garden and Hotel Suites located in Nru Nsukka commended President Bola Tinubu who had shown commitment to sanitize NNPC and ensure that all refinaries in the country were fixed.
“President Bola Tinubu should be commended for his commitment to correct all the anomalies of the past administrations in this country through his renewed agenda anchored on zero tolerance to corruption.
According to Onogwu Mr President support for thorough investigations on management of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) whom the Senate Committee on Public Accounts recently accused of not remitting N210t to the national coffer from 2017 to 2023 is commendable and testament that he had progress of Nigerians at heart.
“If this alleged N210t unaccounted for revenue is recovered, it will be more than enough to fix all refinaries in this country.
“If all our refinaries were functional Nigerians could have not been paying this present exorbitant prices to buy petrol and gas just because US-Isreal and Iran are at war,”he said.

Owere/Umuoyo Ward in Nsukka Legislative Council thanked Alahaji Dagote for building a refinery in the country, noting that without Dangote’s refinery at this critical moment Nigerians could have bought a litre of petrol above N5,000..
“Only God knows how much Nigerians could have bought a litre of fuel, if Dangote refinery was not built,” Onogwu added.
