The Peaceland University, Enugu, has charged its newly matriculated students to pursue excellence and uphold integrity as the institution reaffirmed its zero tolerance for misconduct.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Leonard Ilechukwu, stated this during 3rd Matriculation Ceremony of the institution held at the school premise on Saturday in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university matriculated 589 students for 2025/2026 academic year.
Addressing the students, Ilechukwu, described the university as a “young but great gift” to Enugu State and Nigeria, anchored on its motto of “Integral Human Development.”
“For the third year running, Peaceland University has consistently and conscientiously worked within its operational mandate while not glossing over its avowed mission and vision,” he said.
Emphasising discipline and academic integrity, the Vice-Chancellor declared that the institution maintained “absolute intolerance to examination misconduct or any other unwholesome attitude.
“In Peaceland University, we believe in hard work as high academic mark is not gotten on a platter of gold,” he stated.
The vice chancellor assured students that excellence would be rewarded, noting that “any student who breaks record in any field will receive the institution’s sponsorship to any level.”
He disclosed that the university currently operated five faculties and over 37 departments, stressing its commitment to complementing government efforts in youth development.
Encouraging the new intakes, he said their decision to study at the university would not be regretted, adding that it was the institution’s determination to launch them “into limelight of stardom.”
He described the university as “one of the best” among its peers, given to its facilities that included smart classrooms, functional laboratories, studios, a library and access to academic databases.
According to him, the university has grown within three years to five faculties and over 40 programmes, with plans to expand to six faculties and more than 42 programmes in the next two years.
Beyond academics, he stressed holistic formation.
“To graduate her, we are not just a house of learning. We are a house of formation and we focus on the integral human person — academic, spiritual, emotional, social, cultural, and also sports,” he said.
He urged students to take responsibility for their future, declaring that “Success starts today, not tomorrow and today is the day to start working.”
The vice-chancellor also acknowledged the vision and sacrifice of Mama Pia, the Swiss founder and benefactor of the institution, through whom the university was established.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor, Felix Ugwuozor, also charged the students to embrace discipline, diligence and moral integrity.
He described university education as a transformative process that stretches the mind, tests resilience and refines values.
“There is no substitute for diligence. Talent without discipline is wasted potential. Intelligence without industry produces mediocrity,” he added.
Warning against academic shortcuts, Ugwuozor said, “Knowledge without character is dangerous,” while also cautioning students against digital distractions.
He highlighted the institution’s rapid development, saying that Peaceland
was “the fastest growing private university,” and that, “The future belongs to us while the sky is our limit.”
A student, Marvelous Onyekpeze, from Department of Nursing sciences, expressed gratitude to the school for admitting them.
“This school is very nice and okay with strict policies. I thank my family and friends who were present and management for making it possible,” she said.
